Hooray! I am more proud to be an American than I ever have been. I am so excited about the progression of our country and what the next four years will offer us. Yay!
While I didn't care for either of the candidates and am not overly thrilled about our President-Elect, it is nice to see that people didn't let race stand in the way of making their decisions. I do see this as a significant barrier being broken down and am interested to see what happens from here.
I'd also like to say that I have ALWAYS been proud to be an American, even when I haven't agreed with certain policies or actions taken by our government. I firmly believe this to be the greatest nation on the planet and have NEVER waivered from that belief. People need to remember that no one man put this country in the position that it's in today. No one party did either.
I should have clarified in my last comment--I am blessed to live in this country, but I disagree with constantly referring to the U.S. as the 'BEST' in the world, or our citizens the 'HARDEST WORKING,' etc. McCain repeatedly spoke about countries that "don't like us very much" and people wonder why! I choose not to define people by the country they live in, but who they are--especially those in the countries we are fighting now--we too often forget about the individuals (the scared and hungry children, for example) and instead focus on our nation being the victor, no matter who we step on--it is that sentiment that has often left me ashamed of our country. We are all people, no matter where we live on this world--I refuse to feel better or bigger than any one else simply because I was 'privileged' by birth.
